If you’re involved in any kind of food business in India—whether it’s manufacturing, packaging, storage, distribution, or retail—you must have a valid FSSAI license issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This license ensures that your food products meet national safety and hygiene standards and builds credibility with customers and regulators.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It regulates and monitors food businesses across India to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for consumers.
All food-related businesses must register or obtain an FSSAI license under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
FSSAI Basic Registration
For small businesses or startups with annual turnover < ₹12 Lakhs
FSSAI State License
For medium-sized food businesses with turnover between ₹12 Lakhs – ₹20 Crores
Issued by the State Government
FSSAI Central License
For large food businesses with turnover > ₹20 Crores, or businesses operating in multiple states, or engaged in import/export
Issued by the Central Government
